Say "Hello" to our new NDC interns!

ColumbusNDC

Summer is a season of change and we're excited to welcome some new faces to the team as programs and projects heat up. Interns represent a variety of design professions spanning Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Planning. We invite you to learn more about new staff (or new roles) below.

Jasmine Mason is a recent graduate of Columbus College of Art & Design, where she studied Interior Architecture & Design. Jasmine is from Richmond, Virginia and it was there that her passion for interiors began. Growing up in low-income housing, she aspired to create spaces that were not only safe and functional, but also inviting. Her dream is to make spaces that evoke a sense of pride in people. When she isn’t working, she enjoys watching movies, painting, and reading.

Lucas Martinez joins the team as a planning intern, and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in City and Regional Planning at The Ohio State University. He earned his bachelor's degree from American University where he double majored in Environmental Studies and International Studies with a Global Inequality and Development concentration. From his previous experiences, he has learned the importance of planning and how inextricably tied the built environment is to people’s health and life outcomes. In his work, Lucas hopes to use urban planning and design to find the most practical solutions to the world’s toughest issues and to empower communities to build sustainable, equitable futures.

Reagan Baran is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Architecture at The Ohio State University. Reagan is interested in the intersection of creative design and engineering.  She is also passionate about sustainable design practices including green architecture and adaptive reuse. Reagan is excited to work on interdisciplinary projects and to learn more about urban planning and landscape architecture. When she isn’t in the office, Reagan enjoys going to concerts, reading contemporary fiction, and spending time with her cats Ben and Allan.

Kaleb Duarte is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Architecture at The Ohio State University and will be serving a program coordinator of the Summer Youth CoLab. While also minoring in Comparative Studies and Environment, Economics, Development, & Sustainability, Kaleb aims to uplift communities through design and empower youth to control the narratives that shape their built environments. At Ohio State, Kaleb also serves as the Co-Founder of the Knowlton Society, a new student organization on campus. In their free time, Kaleb is an avid photographer, animator, and curator of all things strange.

Mikey Mlakar recently completed her undergraduate degree in the Landscape Architecture program at The Ohio State University. Mikey has been with the center as an intern for several months and will now be transitioning onto the Summer Youth CoLab as a program coordinator. Her passion for design is rooted in the intersection between the built environment and civic engagement, and she looks forward to relaying this interest for public service to the students participating in this year’s SYC program. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new places with family and friends – especially outdoors.
